Indian investors are increasingly looking beyond their borders to grow their wealth. According to a report by Vested Finance, investments from India into international markets have surged from $400 million to over $1.6 billion. This growth is driven by investors from over 145 cities across the country, with a significant share coming from Tier II and Tier III cities.
A striking demographic trend has emerged, with 48% of global investors from India being under 35 years old. These young investors are cautious, with 38% starting with an initial investment of less than $500. They prefer a digitally savvy approach, starting small and building gradually.
When it comes to asset allocation, stocks dominate, with 68% of global investments from India going into stocks, followed by 24% in ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds), 7% in cash, and 1% in global mutual funds. Interestingly, 66% of investors split their money between stocks and ETFs, suggesting a preference for balance between high-growth bets and diversified instruments.
The most commonly held global stocks by Indian investors include major technology and innovation-led firms such as NVIDIA, Tesla, Apple, Meta Platforms, Alphabet (Google), Microsoft, Amazon, Palantir, Broadcom, and AMD (Advanced Micro Devices). These companies attract Indian investors due to their leadership in defining technologies, global supply chains, and entire markets.
According to Viram Shah, Co-founder and CEO of Vested Finance, the trend is no longer about dabbling in foreign stocks but building portfolios with purpose. Global investing for Indians has moved from curiosity to conviction, with investors thinking in terms of asset allocation, diversification, and long-term global exposure.
The report shows that 38% of investors increase their global allocation within the first year, a sign of growing confidence and familiarity with global markets. Investors are also expanding into private markets, pre-IPO opportunities, and multi-asset global portfolios over time, although participation in such segments remains limited for now.
As participation widens beyond metros and investors seek long-term, diversified exposure, platforms like Vested are helping reshape how India connects with the world of global finance, with global stocks, ETFs, and diversification being key to their investment strategies.
